Some of the best kosher cookbooks are compiled by yeshivot, hebrew
day schools, synagogues and other Jewish nonprofit organizations for
fundraising purposes. Members of the local community contribute
kitchen-tested recipes that have been passed down for
generations. These two cookbooks are particularly good examples.

- Sara Finkel,
Classic Kosher Cooking, Simply Delicious,
Targum Press, December 2008. Hardcover. 278 pages. 294 recipies.
This is a second volume in Sara Finkel's Classic Kosher Cooking
series, and not an update of her
1989 Classic Kosher Cooking book.
If you liked her first cookbook, you'll love this one, especially if
you have a sweet tooth. She continues
to use unusual ingredients creatively, such as Sprite or selzer in
matzah balls (excellent) and fruit in meat and poultry dishes (very sweet).
But some of her recipies are a bit questionable, such as pickled
salmon, and her chapter on microwaving doesn't warn you that
microwaving fish will permeate the house with a very fishy smell.
Recipes include appetizers (20), soups (14), salads (13), poultry
(13), meat (21), fish (12),
veggies (26), kugels (20), pastry (12), challah (7), delectable
desserts (13), cakes (27), cookies (28),
pastries (27), microwaving (14) and Passover (27).
